“Rooted in God’s love, we learn, grow and flourish.” (Ephesians 3:17–19)

Life in our Church School

Potterhanworth Church of England Primary School promotes high achievement and learning for life by working with each individual to:

  •  Value themselves and others through the Christian ethos
  • Promote their positive self esteem and to take pride in achieving their maximum potential
  • Develop enquiring minds and an active spirit of curiosity
  • Develop a sense of responsibility, caring and respect for others
  • Achieve high standards in all areas of the curriculum and within a wider social context
  • Become self-motivated, independent lifelong learners

Within the context of Christian belief and practice, we provide quality education encompassing the whole of the school curriculum and school life.  We encourage an understanding of the meaning and importance of faith.

Collective Worship

Collective Worship Collective Worship at Potterhanworth is an integral part of our school day.

Through worship, and within the day-to-day life of our school, we are on a journey to live out our vision. Our Collective Worship has three underlying principles: being invitational, inclusive and inspirational.

We believe Collective Worship is a time for our children to pause, reflect and value themselves and others, deepening their appreciation of our world.

Children’s spiritual development is fostered through all aspects of school life and during Collective Worship this is strengthened. We wish to promote enquiring minds and sparks of curiosity, nurturing a sense of responsibility, independence, and positivity about themselves and others.

Our Monday Collective Worships are planned and delivered using ‘Roots and Fruits’, following our core values. Different staff lead these worships. During these times, our Collective Worship Council can be involved in delivering the prayers, using our puppets to tell stories, or delivering parts of the worship. Within the week, children are invited to take part in Collective Worship within Key Stages.

Friday is Celebration Worship where we gather in St Andrew’s Church. Parents and family are invited to join us. This is an opportunity for children to worship together, but also celebrate the achievements of their week. Termly, we are joined termly by Reverend Lorna to lead worship.

Equality Objectives

Potterhanworth Church of England Primary School is committed to promoting the welfare and equality of all. We strive to be a caring school family where everyone belongs.

The school’s general duties with regard to equality are:

  • Eliminate unlawful  discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any other conduct prohibited by the Equality Act 2010
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it
  • Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it.

In practise, due regard means that the governing body and the leadership team will be aware when making decisions or taking action.  They will assess whether it may have implications for people with particular protected characteristics, as well as continue to consider equality implications before and at the time of policy development.

We welcome our duties under the Equality Act 2010 to eliminate discrimination.

As a school we celebrate difference and support each other so that everyone can reach their full potential regardless of disability, ethnicity, gender, religion, belief and sexual identify.  In accordance with our School’s Vision, Values and Mission Statement we aim to:

  1. Continue to maintain the school’s position as a provider of high-quality education and provide development opportunities for all.
  2. Continue to support all stakeholders to contribute towards a happy and caring environment where all are valued and loved.
  3. Develop further appreciation and understanding of how differences are celebrated and valued.

“Rooted in God’s love, we learn, grow and flourish” (Ephesians 3:17-19)

The 2010 Equality Act makes it an offense to discriminate against a person due to the 9 protected characteristic(s):

Age-A person belonging to a particular age (for example 32 year olds) or range of ages (for example 18 to 30 year olds).

Disability-A person has a disability if she or he has a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on that person’s ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities.

Gender reassignment-The process of transitioning from one sex to another.

Marriage and civil partnership-Marriage is a union between a man and a woman or between a same-sex couple. Same-sex couples can also have their relationships legally recognised as ‘civil partnerships’. Civil partners must not be treated less favourably than married couples (except where permitted by the Equality Act).

Pregnancy and maternity-Pregnancy is the condition of being pregnant or expecting a baby. Maternity refers to the period after the birth, and is linked to maternity leave in the employment context. In the non-work context, protection against maternity discrimination is for 26 weeks after giving birth, and this includes treating a woman unfavourably because she is breastfeeding.

Race-Refers to the protected characteristic of race. It refers to a group of people defined by their race, colour, and nationality (including citizenship) ethnic or national origins.

Religion and belief-Religion refers to any religion, including a lack of religion. Belief refers to any religious or philosophical belief and includes a lack of belief. Generally, a belief should affect your life choices or the way you live for it to be included in the definition.

Sex-A man or a woman.

Sexual orientation-Whether a person’s sexual attraction is towards their own sex, the opposite sex or to both sexes.
